HOT DAMN. SO TURNED ON RIGHT NOW.

Kickin’ it at the crib

Finally home. Post-finals reward. Getting plump from home-cooking, abundant snackage, and lazing about in bed.

Last night, Kim and I sorted through piles and piles of old clothes. Some for keeps, others for donation. We also stumbled on ex-boyfriend boxes. I haven’t looked at this box in over five years. Needless to say, this boy was crazy. Crazy funny tho. Fave part was the mix CD with “Irreplaceable” and “The Ding Dong Song”. Also, the silly doodles with hearts and poo jokes. Oh being young and dumb.

Also, I spent a great deal of time arguing with my parents about my participation in the NATO protest with BAYAN/ANAKBAYAN/GAB-USA/ILPS. They worry about safety and such. My mom jokes saying, “Oh that’s our Carla. Makibaka, Wag Matakot,” which funnily enough is the resurrected slogan for the Congress. More on the haps with that later on.

Today, Kim and I went to lunch with our Mama at Curry Hut. Best Indian Buffet ever! Total comfort food on a rainy, lazy day. I would include images in this entry, but my phone died. Didn’t expect to stay home an extra night, so I’m now incommunicado. I kinda like the idea of living underground and disconnecting from everyone/everything.

Then again, I’m on tumblr so I obviously want to remain connected and keep my life in order. #nihilismfail

Anyway, now that I’m on summer “break”, I’d like to spend more time not only writing in my journal but also posting on this blog. Not that anyone reads the shit I write. But in the off chance my life becomes relevant in history, I’d like to document thoughts, fotos, and even some of my creative writing outside of my little red books.

dig it

We live in a world today where nearly every piece of cultural expression has been co-opted from its point of origin, commodified, and sold to back to the people. In a capitalist economy that has separated everybody into his or her own individual space, we are forced to define ourselves by what we buy. Even people who think they are being politically progressive by purchasing free-trade beans or boycotting Nestle are still ultimately defining where they stand by how they utilize their consumer power. That isn’t revolutionary at all. You can’t buy yourself a sense of self-worth. You can’t buy yourself an identity… In order to truly express ourselves, we need to create our own identities rooted in our lifestyles and what sustains us. It needs to be a full expression of who we are and what we do… Now, obviously, we are all too deeply intertwined in this economic system to just give it the middle finger and try and operate outside of it. An identity based solely on the rejection of what commoditized identities are marketed to you isn’t much of an identity, either.

beware. if you read Haruki Murakami  while listening to Explosions in the Sky, you will drip into some quasi-dimensional world and will lose sleep. Just don’t forget to leave yourself trails to follow back to reality
